Install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Official Update for Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi

Android 5.0.2 T700XXU1BOD5 Lollipop OTA Update is now live for the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi and you can use the instructions listed in this post in order to learn how to update it.

Android 5.0.2 Lollipop comes with Material Design UI and with tons of other new features that will make you feel like you’ve just bought a brand new tablet. If you don’t want to wait until the official OTA Update arrives in your region, then you can choose an alternate method of installing Android 5.0.2 on your device.

Check the instructions listed below in order to learn how to prepare your device for the updating process:

  •     use this post only with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi.
  •     do not try to install this new firmware on any other different Android device.
  •     check the model number of your device under Settings> About Device and make sure that the
SM – T700 version is listed.
  •     download and install the Samsung USB Drivers on your computer.
         – the USB drivers allows you to connect your tablet with your PC.
  •     disable Samsung KIES from running along with any antivirus applications.
         – these apps are going to block the ODIN tool from opening.
         – ODIN is the app that you’re going to use in order to flash the brand new Android 5.0.2
            Lollipop firmware on your tablet.
  •     enable USB Debugging in Developer Options on your device.
         – the Developer Options menu can be activated like this: go to Settings> About Device> tap 7
times on the Build Number section.
         – go back to Settings and open Developer Options, scroll down to USB Debugging and
            enable it.
  •     if you own a rooted device, then you will lose root access after the installation is complete.
         – any custom Recovery that might be installed will also be replaced with a stock Recovery.
  •     if you install this new firmware over a custom ROM, then you will also need to apply an extra
‘factory reset’ step in order to force your device to boot in normal mode.
         – the ‘factory reset’ wipes clean the system memory partition, so that the new firmware will
            install successfully.
         – ‘factory reset’ doesn’t wipe any data from the internal nor external storage of your device.
  •     in case your device is on stock firmware, then you shouldn’t worry about losing any
        important data in the process.
  •     this is a tutorial that has to be applied only by advanced Android users, we cannot be held
responsible in case you lose data nor in case you brick your device.
  •     read the entire post and make sure not to skip any instructions.
  •     check the battery charge level and make sure that it is over 50%, it prevents the tablet form
powering down while booting the new Android 5.0.2 firmware after the installation is
        complete.

Now that you know all of the above you can continue to the next part of this post and learn how to successfully flash a brand new official Lollipop 5.0.2 on your device.

How to install Android 5.0.2 T700XXU1BOD5 Official Update for Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi:

  •     Download the Android 5.0.2 update zip from here.
         – make sure to create an account with SamMobile before being able to download this file.
  •     After the download is complete you need to extract its contents on your PC.
         – you will obtain a T700XXU1BOD5 tar.md5 file extension, don’t extract any further than
            that.
  •     Download the Odin3 v3.09 from here.
         – extract its contents on your PC.
  •     Now you can power off the tablet.
  •     Boot the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi in Download Mode.
         – it can be done by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power buttons at the
            same time.
         – release these buttons after the “warning” screen loads, then you can press Volume Up in
           order to boot Download Mode.
         – continue to the next step when you’re done.
  •     Launch Odin3 v3.09 exe on your computer.
  •     Now you should connect the tablet to PC via USB cable.
         – wait for Odin to detect the device.
         – if the tablet is not detected, then you will have to re-install the USB drivers.
  •     Go back to ODIN’s main screen and tap on AP button.
  •     Now you will have to find and load the T700XXU1BOD5 tar.md5 firmware file in Odin.
         – make sure that the ‘Re-Partition’ option in Odin is disable before getting to the next step.
  •     Hit the START button when you’re ready to begin the updating process.
         – don’t press any buttons until the installation is complete.
  •     When Android 5.0.2 update is successfully installed on your device you will see Odin showing the ‘PASS’ alert and the tablet rebooting.

The first boot process of this new ROM is going to take a while before it completes, so you shouldn’t press any buttons until you see the Lollipop welcome screen. Also, you can unplug the device from PC too.

If you encounter any problems completing installation, then you should check the extra instructions below. If you have installed the new official firmware over a custom ROM, then you should check the ‘factory reset’ instructions listed under the ‘Note 2′ part below.

NOTE 1:

In case Odin displays the FAIL alert or it gets stuck some time during installation, then you will have to try and repeat the whole guide more than once. Make sure that your device meets all requirements and that you won’t skip any steps.

Also, you can use the comments field at the end of this post in order to ask for extra help.

NOTE 2:

If ODIN shows the ‘PASS’ alert, but it is unable to boot in normal mode and it gets stuck at the boot animation screen for more than 20 minutes or it enters in a boot loop, then you need to apply the ‘factory reset’ steps below. The info below is also needed by those that have flashed Android 5.0.2 official firmware over a custom ROM.

Here’s how to apply the ‘factory reset’ for your device:

  •     switch off the device.
  •     boot it in Recovery Mode.
         – do it by pressing and holding the following buttons at the same time: volume up, home and
            Power
         – release the buttons when the main Recovery Mode menu loads.
  •     select ‘wipe data/ factory reset’.
  •     confirm process.
  •     reboot your tablet in normal mode when done.

These were all the steps that you had to follow in order to complete the OTA update manually.
