Google Unveils Project Jacquard, a Movement to Bring Touch and Gesture Technology to Clothing

Back in early May, the Google ATAP team teased that they can would flaunt new wearables that could quite literally “knock our socks off” at Google I/O. Today, we've got that announcement, and it’s conductive yarn such as Project Jacquard.

By weaving in conductive strands of yarn into basically any textile, the ATAP team has the capacity to turn a selected part of your pants or jacket in to a touch interface, which results in end-users controlling functions of any device by tapping or sliding a finger on their own clothing.

ATAP’s idea is the fact that Jacquard might be a blank canvas for clothing designers and developers to cooperate with, letting them fit the technology to whatever use they would like. As purely a sample, just a perception that I regarded myself, in case your phone was in your pocket that's connected to a set of Bluetooth headphones, and you also want to adjust the degree, you could do a fast slide of your finger in your jacket either up or down to control the quantity. That could be cool, right?

Jacquard is a very early state, so right this moment, what we should can do along with it is still unknown. It will be around developers and designers to make a decision how they desire to incorporate clothing with sensors inside.
