Google Nexus 6 Android M Developer Preview Available for Download
Google has presented their next Android M operating system in San Francisco at the Google I/O 2015 event. The future OS upgrade is known as ‘M‘ for the moment and its Developer Preview version can be already downloaded and installed on the Nexus 6 smartphone.
Android M Developer Preview comes with tons of improvements that should benefit from the extensive testing Google has done on the Android 5.x Lollipop builds. All the wrong things with Lollipop have been addressed in this new release and we should be finally getting the best Android OS since ever.
Android M packs the following important new things: Doze, Direct Share, native fingerprint sensor support, drop-down volume controls, On Tap Google Now, automatic backup for installed applications, Bluetooth SAP, App link verification, unified app settings menu, Google Now Launcher app suggestions, 5GHz portable Wi-Fi hotspot, new languages, System UI tuner that allows you to change Quick Settings toggles, Chrome Custom Tabs, BT 4.2 support, USB Type-C support, undo and redo shortcuts, Unified Google settings. There is no official changelog available for this release.
Doze is one of the most important new features added by Google in Android M Developer Preview, as it puts the device in a deeper sleep state when your device is idle. This new feature will improve the battery life when the phone is out of your hands as Doze will mostly battle against the Android wakelocks present in numerous applications.
You can try all these new changes by installing the Android M Developer Preview on your Nexus 6 from here. This installation should be applied only by advanced Android users that are looking to tinker with their smartphone.
Download Android M Developer Preview from here. Make sure to grab the Nexus 6 tgz factory image file. We will shortly post a working tutorial that you can use to learn how to flash the Android M Developer Preview factory image on your Nexus 6 device.
Keep in mind that in case you decide to install this factory image on your smartphone you will end up wiping the entire device. Create backups for all important files or a complete NANDROID Backup of the entire Android 5.1 Lollipop OS in order to revert your Nexus 6 to its original state in case something goes wrong during installation.
