While we've had ads on our smartphones for a long time now, mobile is, and may be, a challenging nut to hack for ad networks like Google's. Speaking on the Wall Street Journal for the San Franciso ad:tech conference, Google's advertising chief, Sridhar Ramaswamy, confirmed that mobile search and mobile YouTube monetization remain a top-notch priority for your giant.
As you can think of, mobile advertising is generally tough due to the considerably smaller real-estate available to display ads, but in addition because it's relatively harder (in comparison to a desktop computer or possibly a laptop) to accomplish online orders about the small screen. This makes advertisers less able to pay for ads on mobile. The solution? Better and smarter strategies to reach and engage consumers, but: larger displays.
